IoT devices such as sensors, actuators, and machines transmit machine states and information to a cloud. This complex system requires multiple interfaces. Schildknecht AG provides a solution! The connectivity of devices to a cloud is achieved through a central gateway. The DATAEAGLE 7000 device family offers various interfaces for monitoring at field and control levels.
IoT Gateway
Our IoT gateway, DATAEAGLE 7000, provides a user-friendly interface to simplify the data transmission process to the cloud. It enables the transfer of data from various IoT devices to the device cloud and can also send data from the cloud to the IoT device. With a straightforward mobile solution based on a globally deployable eSIM card, Schildknecht AG connects facilities worldwide. The gateway is particularly suitable for real-time analysis of machine data, remote maintenance, software updates for mobile equipment, and remote monitoring. IOT CONNECTIVITY – VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL COMMUNICATION
Vertical communication (networking) connects things such as sensors and machines to users within a production or site. Ethernet is suitable for this type of communication, especially in the context of Industry 4.0. Horizontal communication (networking) enables location-independent data communication across the entire value chain. Things and users can be located at different sites, potentially even in different companies.
Device Cloud
The Device Cloud is a private cloud that serves as the interface between IoT gateways and the customer’s cloud system or end devices (such as computers, tablets, or smartphones). It can be connected to any IoT cloud through the API interface. The data from the things is sent from the gateway to the Device Cloud via cellular networks.
Cloud System
A cloud system is responsible for providing data analysis and visualization functions. Therefore, it is tailored to the specific needs of a company, user group, project, or use case. Various public or private cloud systems can be utilized for this purpose. Another option for data processing is a Device Cloud, which enables the visualization of data from IoT things/devices or their integration into other applications through the API interface. Remote maintenance and condition monitoring of machines and equipment can be achieved using our cloud system.
Condition Monitoring System
To enable our customers to achieve quick implementation, Schildknecht AG follows an IoT-ready-to-use approach. IoT platform approach using the example of a service solution for cranes
Modern gantry cranes in port facilities all over the world are freely movable “transporters” for containers on rubber wheels with their own drive units, e.g. in order to be able to change aisles (without conductor rails) (RTG – Rubber Tired Gantry Cranes). To ensure the constant functioning of these units, an automatic monitoring system was developed by the crane manufacturer together with Schilfknecht AG. Sensors and radio modules installed in the drive unit are used for this purpose, which regularly record the continuously registered operating data and communicate it worldwide. In view of the demand for free mobility, wireless technology was used for this purpose.
The DATAEAGLE 7050 gateway with various fieldbus interfaces is connected to the control system. From there, the data is transmitted via mobile radio to the device cloud and from there to an ERP or a customer cloud. There, the data can be tracked and corrective measures can be taken in case of irregularities or service calls can be coordinated by the customer.
