Yes. There are many different reasons why mobile radio plays an important role in the Internet of Things. One reason is that compared to a gateway with an Ethernet interface (e.g. a WLAN router), an IoT gateway solution that relies on mobile radio is independent of the existing infrastructure and internal IT network.
Furthermore, compared to other radio technologies, such as LORA or Sigfox, mobile radio wins through its worldwide radio network coverage. This means that mobile radio connectivity and networking are possible regardless of location and at any time. In the near future, Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT), special technologies on mobile radio standard, will create additional possibilities for application.
