Industrial Internet of Things

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is the use of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in manufacturing. IIoT incorporates machine learning and big data technology, harnessing the sensor data, machine-to-machine (M2M) communication and automation technologies that have existed in industrial settings for years.

The abbreviation IIoT stands for Industrial Internet of Things. It refers to the use and possibilities of the Internet of Things (IoT) in an industrial environment. In contrast to the IoT, the concepts here do not focus on consumers and users, but on industrial processes and procedures in areas such as production, logistics, energy supply, etc.
The objectives of the IIoT are to increase efficiency and reduce costs in production, accelerate processes or “production quantity 1” through to the implementation of completely new business models. Sensors and their data and their analysis (Big Data) play a central role at IIoT, which provide the basis for the desired automation of certain processes.
The Industrial Internet of Things has the potential for positive influences on growth, competitiveness and future viability of a company; IIoT solutions should enable both horizontal networking at the shop level and vertical networking to higher levels up to ERP systems and possibly third-party systems.
