Here you find all about IO-Link.
IO-Link is a serial, bidirectional point-to-point communication system for sensors and actuators. It replaces the connections to simple on / off processes at the lowest level of automation. In addition to traditional systems, true digital process values are recorded and transmitted by IO-Link, using advanced features of intelligent sensors. As a result, advantageous process optimizations such as the flexible remote diagnosis of sensors and the dynamic remote adjustment of sensor parameters are possible. From real-time data collection, more precise forecasts and more targeted prevention measures for errors can sometimes be worked out. Sensor replacement is also conveniently possible after plug-and-play because IO-Link can import the previous configuration data. The open standard also provides retroactive compatibility so that IO-Link can be integrated into all common systems. This also paved the way to Industry 4.0 for them through IO-Link.
The IO-Link system is generally composed of an IO-Link master and one or more IO-Link sensors or actuators. Basically, the IO-Link master is used for data communication with the connected devices (also slaves), and can be used either as a PLC interface or interface module to the fieldbus. When used with PROFINET, the wireless IO-Link system from Schildknecht also offers the option of a clever multipoint setup in addition to the conventional point-to-point connection. The DATAEAGLE 4000 enables the flexible connection of several control units via Bluetooth to an IO-Link master. Furthermore, with the DATAEAGLE IoT gateway, there is an additional option for a connection to the cloud.
